Architect Peter Nobile built the Theseus Temple in the Volksgarten, which was erected to shelter Antonio Canova's famous "Theseus and the Centaur," now in the Imperial Gallery. On a visit to Rome, Francis II saw and purchased the sculpture and then presented to his citizens. It was also Nobile who conceived the outer Burg-Thor of the Hofburg.
